Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj ends today with the final holy dip.

Maha Kumbh 2025 on Maha Shivratri, known as the world’s largest religious gathering, ended on Wednesday, February 26, the final day of the big Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. Devotees gathered at the Sangam Ghat and Triveni Sangam for a holy plunge, the last holy dip of Maha Shivratri. This marks the end of the six-week-long Mela, the world’s largest spiritual gathering, which takes place in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.

For the final holy dip at Maha Kumbh Mela on the festival of Maha Shivratri, pilgrims were spotted heading towards the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. The whole Maha Kumbh Mela region has been declared a no-vehicle zone. A large number of pilgrims proceed to Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi and Ram Mandir in Ayodhya after taking the holy bath in Sangam

Officials said up to 14,000 house guards and 37,000 policemen have been deployed at MahaKumbh Mela for security. Meanwhile, 50 watch towers, three Jal Police stations, 18 Jal Police control rooms, and 2,750 AI-based CCTV cameras are installed to assist in overseeing the security and safety of devotees.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, stated that in 45 days, 66 crore, 21 lakh devotees took holy baths at the Triveni Sangam. The great fair saw extraordinary security measures, including anti-drone devices and AI-enabled cameras, to man the Mahakumbh Nagar’s UP’s 76th district, which was put up just for the occasion.

During the Mahakumbh, there were six “snans” (holy baths) in all. They are referred to as Amrit snans, which include Basant Panchami (February 3), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), and Makar Sankranti (January 14). Maha Shivratri dip was one of the final six “snans,” but it was not an Amrit Snan. The other two were Paush Purnima (January 13) and Maaghi Purnima (February 11–12).

On January 29, when thousands of devotees had come to take a sacred bath in the Ganga river on the “Mauni Amavasya,” a rush broke out close to Sangam. The event occurred between 1 and 2 am on January 29 and resulted in at least 30 deaths and 60 injuries.
