Tourist Places to Visit in Omkareshwar – Omkareshwar is a Shiva temple located in Mandhata, a nearby city in the Khandwa district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is one of Shiva’s renowned 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Omkareshwar and Amarkareshwar are the two ancient shrines that make up the town of Omkareshwar. The sacred town is located where the Narmada and Kaveri rivers merge.

And the nearest cities are Indore, Mandu, Maheshwar, and Burhanpur where you can find many forts, temples, markets. From October to March is the best time to visit Omkareshwar. You can, however, visit during the monsoons because rains are mostly ordinary here. The town is also especially charming during the Dusshera celebration.

Omkareshwar temple is the outcome of a diversion of the Narmada River, which led it to become split in two. The shape of the island is inspired by Omkara’s Om sound. Legend has it that Lord Vindhayas prayed to Lord Shiva and received the town of Omkareshwar as a gift.

There are several mythological rumours and traditions associated with the history and origins of Omkareshwar temple. One could argue that Vindhya, the deity in charge of the Vindhyachal mountain ranges, who was worshipping Lord Shiva to purify his soul of the sins he had committed by made a lingam out of sand and clay.
