American Airlines flight attendants have unanimously agreed to a strike in an effort to secure a new labor agreement and increased wages.

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) revealed that 99.5 percent of flight attendants who participated in the months-long referendum endorsed the strike.

According to union president Julie Hedrick, the vote reveals that American Airlines' flight attendants, who haven't received an increase in salary since 2019.

Hedrick added, we sent a clear message to American Airlines management today: we are fired up and eager to negotiate a contract. At their peril, they ignore the strike vote.

American Airlines pilots accepted a new contract last week that will increase their wages by more than 40% over four years while also increasing business payments to retirement plans.

Apart from American Airlines, the Southwest Airlines pilots association also said earlier this year that the workers it represents at the airline decided to approve a strike with 99% of the pilots voting in support.
